The parent/guardian agrees to inform the HLIC within 24 hours or the next business day after his child or any members of the immediate household has developed a reportable communicable. The parent/guardian agrees to refrain from sending the possibly ill child to HLIC, and understands that if a child shows symptoms of illness, the parent/guardian will be called to have the child removed from camp. The parent/guardian authorizes the application of sunscreen and/or insect repellent for his/her child by HLIC staff. Late pick-up: If a parent/guardian/Authorized pick-up person is unable to pick up the child from HLIC by 5:00 PM each day, they agree to call HLIC staff to inform them. Failure to call when late will result in HLIC staff calling ALL of the child's Parents/Guardians and Authorized Pick-Up Contacts. If HLIC cannot reach any adult (that is listed in the child's registration form) by phone at the time of pick-up, and no adult has contacted HLIC regarding the child's pickup, authorities may be called. Each level is covered in an eight-week semester, and students have 25 contact hours with a teacher each week. Home / Housing / Residence HLIC Residence Home HLIC has three residence homes around Halifax. In a residence home you live with other HLIC students who are 19+ in a clean, safe, friendly and furnished home. Prices vary from $550-$800 per room depending on the residence. All your bills (power, heat, water, lights, and wifi) are included. Living with 4 or 5 other students (there is no chaperone in these homes), you are all responsible for making your own food, cleaning the house, and living harmoniously with one another. With all your bills included, you can focus on your schoolwork and having fun in Canada. The residence homes are not downtown, and you will need to commute to school by car, bus, or bike for 15-20 minutes each way. After graduation at HLIC, you have the option to continue living in your residence home throughout your university career here in Halifax. Lease agreements are 1 year in length, and tenant insurance is encouraged. Living in these residence homes means you will be well respected as an international student here in Halifax.
