Course Description
HLIC's General English (ESL) program is for students who want to focus on communication and conversation skills. This program is best for students who that are not planning to attend college or university in Canada.

The morning consists of lessons in integrated skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar). In the afternoon, students focus on developing speaking skills, including vocabulary and pronunciation, on a new theme each week.
Students will complete a placement assessment prior to starting their program to determine their English level. You will be placed in a class that is appropriate to your English level.

How much does studying General English at HLIC cost?
The General English course operates on continuous enrolment which allows for students to join our classes on any Monday and study for as many weeks as they like.

Valid health insurance is mandatory for all international students in Canada.

Homestay is offered to students who are studying with HLIC for at least 1 week or longer. Homestay cost includes 3 meals per day. Click here for more information about our homestay program.

HLIC Calendar 2024/2025
EAP, UBP: Courses required to attend English-speaking highschools, colleges and universities begin and end on designated dates throughout the year.

ESL, Other English Courses: English programs not required for further studies can begin on any Monday of the year, except for Public Holidays and HLIC Closure Dates.
