SUMMER DAY CAMP
2024

Join HLIC in Halifax, Nova Scotia for exciting 2-week camps designed for kids aged 5 to 12 (entering grades 1-6). Our programs offer a mix of educational and fun activities including field trips, sports, coding, arts and crafts, and more. *The HLIC Summer Day Camp program is not a language studies program. There are no English lessons scheduled for this camp. 

  • How do I register for camp?
    Register your child for HLIC Summer Day Camp online. Once your submit a registration form, you will receive instructions for payment. Please note that your childs place is not reserved until payment is received.
  • How much is camp?
    Each camp $600 for 2 weeks of fun, plus $25 registration fee ($625 total). That's includes 9 hours of supervised childcare per day, daily activities and excursions, and all materials.
  • How old are campers?
    We accept campers aged 5 to 12, entering grades 1 - 6. Campers must have completed kindergarten to participate (are entering grade 1). Students aged 13 who are entering grade 6 in September 2024 are welcome.
  • Do campers study English while at Day Camp?
    The HLIC Summer Day Camp is not a language program. Campers will not have classroom time exclusively for studying English during this camp.
  • What does a typical day at summer day camp look like?
    7:50 – 8:00am: Sign In 8:00 – 8:30am: Attendance & Start of Day Campers and staff participate in warm-up activities and get ready to start our day 8:40 – 8:50am: Transportation/Set-up Time Campers and staff move to their first activity (and/or staff prepare materials on-site needed for first activitiy. Campers are given some free time to socialize, use the washroom or prepare for the activity if needed). 9:00 – 10:30am: Program Block 1 10:45 – 11:00am: Transportation / Free-time Campers and staff move to activity location and/or campers are given some free time to eat a snack, use the washroom and socialize 11:00– 12:00am: Program Block 2 12:00 – 1:00pm: Lunch 1:00pm – 2:00pm: Program Block 3 2:00pm – 2:15pm: Transportation / Free-time Campers and staff move to activity location and/or campers are given some free time to eat a snack, use the washroom and socialize 2:15pm – 3:15pm: Program Block 4 3:15 – 3:30pm: Transportation / Free-time 3:30 – 4:30pm: Program Block 5 4:30 – 4:50pm: Wind-down activitiy, clean-up 4:50pm - 5:00pm: Sign out and pick-up time
  • What to pack?
    Please mark all of your child’s belongings with their full name! Items for your child to bring to camp include: Backpack Water bottle Lunch and snacks Sneakers Hat Sunscreen (SPF 30+) Swimsuit and towel We also recommend packing sunglasses and a book for your child. Do not send your child to camp with electronics or other toys. If your child carries medical equipment or medication, please inform HLIC staff (epi-pen, enhaler, etc.) HLIC is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or broken items.
  • Pick-up time
    Please have pick-up your child at 5:00 PM each camp day at 1969 Upper Water Street Suite 203 (Purdy's Wharf Tower 2). Your child will only be released to the custodial parent, legal guardian and/or the authorized pickup contacts listed on their registration form. The child will not be released to any person who is not on the childs registration form. All persons authorized to pick-up children should be prepared to show identification (photo i.d.) at the time of sign-out for the child to be released to them. Late Pick-Up: If you (parent/guardian/Authorized pick-up person) are running late and are unable to pick up the child from HLIC by 5:00 PM, you MUST call HLIC and inform staff that you will be late. Failure to call when late will result in HLIC staff calling ALL of the child's Parents/Guardians and Authorized Pick-Up Contacts to find someone to come get the child. If HLIC cannot reach any adult (that is listed in the child's registration form) by phone at the time of pick-up, and no adult has contacted HLIC regarding the child's pickup within a reasonable timeframe, authorities may be called. This is to ensure your child's safety and the well-being of both the child and adults listed.
  • Cancellation & Refund policy
    Cancellations must be done at least 2 weeks before the start of the camp date to be issued a refund. Refunds will not be issued after the camp start date.

Outdoor Day Trips may include (weather dependant):

  • Visit to the Halifax Public Gardens: Nature walks, plant identification, and picnic.

  • Historical Adventure at Citadel Hill

  • Outdoor Sports at the Halifax Commons

  • Nature Walks in Point Pleasant Park

  • Canoeing & kayaking at Shubie Park

  • Visiting Local Events* such as the Halifax Buskers (Camp 3, July 29- August 9), Natal Day Activities and more!

  • Halifax Boardwalk Scavenger Hunt

Indoor activities may include:

  • Introduction to computer coding for kids!

  • Arts & Crafts

  • Theatre and Acting practice

  • A day of play at Halifax Discovery Center
